Four back issues of Vogue Knitting's dreadful Knit.1. Sold to a colleague through the ICN for $2.00 each.
I really, really, really hate the designs in this magazine. I used to like them. Now I just find them so tacky!

Fabric. (Yes, still more fabric.)
Three pieces of fabric, sold to a colleague.
Quilting cotton with tools on it, black stretch velour (maybe from my old roommate?) and grey leopard-print fleece. I've never even come up with ideas for what to do with these.

Fabric.
Two pieces of fabric. Sold to a colleague.
More stuff from Fabricland—a piece of black denim (too small to do anything cool with) and a piece of weird stretchy red polyester that sort of changes colour in the light. Exceptionally ugly.

Fabric.
Three pieces of polyester dress fabric. Sold to a colleague who is just learning how to sew.
These pieces were out of my stash from when I worked at Fabricland. None of them speak to me anymore. My sartorial choices have definitely... Matured.

Knitting Book.
Yes, yet another knitting book: Vogue Knitting's Very Easy Knits. Sold in via the ICN at work for $15.00.
Yup, still getting rid of lots of knitting patterns. So freeing!

Doc Martens.
Sorry for the crap image. Taken with my phone again. |
Lug-soled eight hole Doc Martens, men's size eight. Sold via the ICN for $25.00.
I bought these at Ragtime about six years ago and have only worn them a handful of times. They have moved on to someone who will actually use them.

Garbage and Recycling.
OK, maybe it's not really fair to count garbage and recycling in "a thing a day", but hear me out.
It's not just, "I threw out a banana peel." When I was packing for my move, I got rid of:

Camera.
Tiny little digital camera (smaller than my palm). Gave it to Andrew.
I bought this a couple of years ago at Giant Tiger for $5.00 and promptly forgot about it. I ran across it when I was packing, snapped a couple of photos on it and tried to load them onto my Mac. My computer wouldn't recognize* the camera or the software. I gave it to Andrew to see if he could figure it out.
*I'm sure there's an easy enough fix for this, but quite frankly I'm happy to have gotten rid of something so if there is please don't tell me.

Magazine boxes.
Ikea Flyt magazine boxes. Gave them to the same girl I gave the magazine back issues to a little while back.
Since I got rid of so many magazines, and I rarely buy magazines anymore, I gave these away. That felt really good.

Adhesive labels.
Various adhesive labels. Also given to Natalie Joy. (She's picking up all this stationery for the Ottawa Fringe Festival office to use.)
Again, this goes back to my whole "I always buy stationery supplies" thing. Although, in fairness, I haven't done that since I lived in Huntsville and wrote a lot of letters. Because I was poor and didn't have a computer or the internet.

Bubble envelopes.
Bubble envelopes. Also given to Natalie Joy, who took some stationery yesterday.
I used to work as a radio DJ (as I mentioned before here), in the days before it was common practice to e-mail an MP3 of your demo to potential employers. I used these envelopes to mail CD copies of my demo. Since I don't work in radio anymore and rarely mail people CDs, I didn"t need to take up space with these. If I ever do need to mail a CD, I can go to the store and get one.

Stationery.
Various pretty letter writing papers and stationery. Given away via my free-for-all to Natalie Joy.
I sometimes have hoarding tendencies when it comes to things like bath products and pretty writing paper. Natalie Joy stepped up and said she wanted some of my stationery supplies I was able to let go.

Film darkroom supplies.
Film processing tank and reals, tongs, static cloth, grain finder, lunchbox. Given away via Freecycle.
I left journalism school in 1999. I have moved this lunchbox ten times, thinking that someday, someday, I would have a film darkroom of my very own. It's still a dream of mine, but I refuse to move these items an eleventh time. I figure that by the time I can afford a house that has a darkroom, I can afford to replace these. This was a very difficult thing to let go.

Binders.
Six binders. Gave away via Freecycle.
It's weird how I collect binders. From presentations, courses, or even just lifted from work, for some reason I always end up with a ton of them at home.
These six were empty, so I gave them to a woman on Freecycle whose child uses them for her braille cards.

White nail polish. Gave it to Kari.
I had this awesome idea that I was going to paint my toenails white. Wow, did it ever look like crap. Since I don't do French manicures anymore (like I talked about here), I offered it to Kari. Turns out she paints her toenails white in winter. Done.

Fabric.
Pink gingham and black and grey damask stretch fabric, both given to Kari.
OK, first of all, can we talk about how freakin' cute Kari is? Go ahead, I'll wait.
...
Seriously, she's ridiculously adorable and so photogenic. I love the pictures she takes for the blog and it's cool that she's in one of mine now! She was helping to motivate me to clean while I was packing and purging, and took these two pieces of fabric. Now that I think about it, I think the pink gingham would make a really cute top from one of those patterns I gave her that I posted about yesterday. I never used it for anything because although it's a knit it doesn't really stretch. The black and grey damask I've had for years; I used part of it to cover three 10"x10" stretchers to use as art in my new apartment, and Kari is possibly going to use the rest for part of her Hallowe'en costume. Hooray!

Patterns.
Two sewing patterns, both about ten years old, given to Kari.
More stuff from when I worked at Fabricland. I got these with the "free pattern a month" deal staff had at the time—not sure if that's something they still do or not. If you work at Fabricland, I hope that's something you get! However, I'm never going to make these. Hopefully Kari will!

Book.
Knitting in the Nordic Tradition by Vibeke Lind. Sold to a colleague via the ICN for $5.00.
This was the first knitting book I ever purchased. This was back in the days before knitting was the hot new thing and I was looking to learn the basics. This book taught me absolutely nothing, nor did it have any projects in it. Knowing what I know now I would never have gone to Chapters looking to learn how to knit.

Knitting magazines and book.
OK, so it's not technically tomorrow yet, but I can't sleep so I figured I'd make my morning routine a little lighter and put this post up 18 minutes early. Sue me.
Knit.1 Spring 2005, Family Circle Easy Knitting and Crochet Holiday 2004 & Fall 2005, Get Creative July 2005, Vogue Knitting International Summer 2005 & Spring/Summer 2006, Interweave Knits Fall 2005 & Spring 2006, Better Homes & Gardens Hip Knits. Sold via the ICN at work.I realized just how much space these books and magazines were taking up. I made a PDF of the patterns I wanted to keep, then sold off the bulky books.
Fabric.
Cotton and flannel fabrics. Sold to a colleague for $10.00.
Ten years ago I worked at Fabricland. While I worked there, I bought a lot of fabric. I have sewn very few things with that fabric in that time, and I now feel like I can finally let it go. This is the first batch of what I am sure will be a lot more.
Teresa is a quilter and will use all of these fabrics where I can't.

Nameplate.
Nameplate from not-my-office. Threw in the garbage. (I had been cleaning all day which is why I look so sweaty and greasy. I am not as photogenic and cute as Kari, obviously. I think I will be going back to photos of just the stuff.)
OK, some backstory. I used to be a radio DJ, and I went by the name Kennedy on the air. When Joe Kennedy retired from the division I worked in when I first came to Statistics Canada, I lifted his name plate since I thought it would be neat. It's been collecting dust for three years. And I'm not a DJ anymore.
Bye bye, nostalgia.

Knitting needles.
Knitting needles of various gauges. Gave them to Kari.
In my seemingly never-ending purge of stuff I don't want to move, I went through my knitting needles and realized I had duplicates and triplicates of needle sizes. So off they go to another knitter!

BlackBerry 7290.
My first ever smartphone. Gave it away via Freecycle .
I don't know why I hang onto old electronics like this. It's not like they're worth anything. I had some fun times with this phone, it was the one I used when I first started texting. I've moved on to a BlackBerry Bold, which I am quite happy with, so I'm pleased that this one is going to someone who can hopefully use it.
